Data Warehouse Business Analyst Interview Questions

Presenting a professional image is essential when interviewing. In most cases, the interview is your only chance to impress a future employer. Practicing the types of questions asked at a typical data warehouse business analyst interview enhances your professional image and may increase your chance for a successful interview. The most common interview questions include the areas of education, work experience, current data warehouse projects and technical expertise

Education Questions

  • The employer already has a good idea of your educational background based upon your resume. Therefore, when they ask, "What is your educational background?" it is important that you include information on the practical work experience you had in college. Try to connect your educational training and technical certifications with the desired experience found in the employer's job description. For example, include any professional data warehouse experience you obtained while working as an intern.

Past Work Experience Questions

  • Employers will look at your past data warehouse projects and work experiences so be prepared to discuss specific projects in technical detail. The employer may look at your resume and ask, "What types of projects did you work on at ...?" Data warehouse business analysts need to establish their professional experience in data modeling. Demonstrating work experience with data-modeling theory is vital since the development of data structures is an essential factor in the creation of viable business databases and data warehouses.

Current Experience Questions

  • Employers will also ask about current work experience. Make sure to include any logical modeling experience that you have since it is an important part of date warehousing. Describe in detail current projects, the types of documenting needed and the architecture structure involved in developing the business data. The interviewer may ask questions concerning your business analysis processes such as strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats analysis. If you have had recent training on new or upgraded data warehouse products, make sure to include them when describing your current experience.

Technical Expertise Questions

  • When employers ask about specific technologies is it important that you have a professional and detailed response that demonstrates your professional knowledge of the data warehouse product, tool or concept. Expect technical questions on common data warehousing concepts such as business intelligence, dimensional databases and relational databases. Employers will ask specific questions about data warehousing concepts so make sure to include your hands on experience. In the case of business intelligence, this would encompass discussing your experience with online analytical processing, or OLAP, using query and reporting tools, data mining and data visualization. Whenever possible include software product names.
